Why Isn't My Website Getting Enquiries?

You've got a website.

People are visiting it.

But the enquiries aren't coming through.

The assumption is often that not enough people are seeing the website. Sometimes that's true. But more often, people are visiting your website and leaving because they haven't found enough evidence to take the next step.

Let's look at what a potential client is actually looking for when they land on your website.

1. Is It Immediately Clear What You Do?

The first thing I want to know is:

  • What do you do?

  • Who do you do it for?

  • Why should I choose you?

This sounds obvious, but it's one of the biggest problems I see on creative business websites.

Your hero section shouldn't just be a beautiful image.

It should communicate your value clearly.

For example, if you're a brand photographer:

Generic

“Capturing authentic stories.”

Stronger

“Brand photography for creative founders who need timeless images that will still feel relevant three years from now.”

One tells me what you do, the other tells me why I should care.

2. Do You Understand My Problem?

People don't buy services. They buy solutions to problems. Before I enquire, I want evidence that you understand what I'm struggling with.

For example:

  • I'm struggling to find a photographer who understands my brand.

  • My website doesn't reflect the quality of my work.

  • I need packaging that feels as premium as my product.

  • My current branding no longer represents my business.

The quicker I recognise myself in your website copy, the more likely I am to stay.

3. Can You Show Me What Success Looks Like?

Now I need proof. This is where visual case studies become incredibly valuable.

Show me:

  • where the client started

  • what wasn't working

  • what changed

  • the outcome

I want to see the transformation. Because that's what helps me imagine working with you.

4. Is Your Content Helping or Hurting?

The quality of your content says a lot about your business.

This includes:

  • photography

  • copywriting

  • project imagery

  • blog posts

One issue I regularly see is huge images uploaded directly from phones.

A beautiful image that weighs 4MB might look great, but if it slows your website down it creates friction for visitors and search engines alike.

Before uploading images:

  • resize them appropriately

  • compress them for web use, 300kb or ideally even less

  • use descriptive file names not img.1234

  • add relevant alt text

I have a whole blog on just this topic!

5. Can Other People Vouch For You?

Testimonials matter. But not all testimonials are equally useful.

This:

“Amy was lovely to work with.”

is nice. But it doesn't tell me much.

This:

Amy completely restructured our website and enquiries increased within three months.

is far more powerful.

The best testimonials explain:

  • what the challenge was

  • what changed

  • what the outcome was

They help future clients see themselves in the story.

6. Do I Understand Your Services?

If I'm interested in working with you, I need to understand what my options are.

  • What services do you offer?

  • Who are they for?

  • Why do they exist?

  • What's the difference between them?

Many creative businesses know their services inside out, but forget that clients are seeing them for the first time.

7. Is It Easy To Take The Next Step?

This is where many websites lose potential enquiries.

I shouldn't have to hunt for your contact page.

Your calls to action should be visible throughout the website.

Particularly after:

  • testimonials

  • case studies

  • service descriptions

When someone feels ready to take action, make it easy.

8. What Happens After I Enquire?

One of the most overlooked parts of a website.

People want certainty.

If I fill in your enquiry form, I want to know:

  • when you'll respond

  • how you'll respond

  • what happens next

  • whether you're currently taking on projects

A simple sentence such as:

“I work Monday to Thursday and aim to respond to all enquiries within two working days.”

instantly removes uncertainty.

The Real Reason Most Websites Don't Generate Enquiries

Usually it's not because nobody is visiting. It's because visitors haven't been given enough confidence to take the next step.

Your website should answer three questions:

  1. Is this person right for me?

  2. Can they solve my problem?

  3. What should I do next?

If any one of those answers is unclear, people leave.

And often, they don't come back

If you're getting website traffic but not enquiries, the issue may not be visibility. It may be clarity.

My 10 Minute Website Clarity Check helps identify what's working, what's creating friction, and what small changes could help turn more visitors into enquiries.
